ST1000DM010-2EP102 HDD Partial Sector Access Fix and Recovery
This is one patient HDD fixed by DFL Seagate firmware repair tool from one DFL user in Italy. The user can only access to very small part of the data area and most data were lost.
Patient HDD Details:
Capacity: 1TB
Model number: ST1000DM010-2EP102
SN: Z9AQSPA2
Firmware: CC43
Family: Pharaoh_Oasis
This patient HDD had SED lock and users need to unlock it. With DFL Seagate hdd firmware repair tool, users can easily generate the unlock rom and write the unlock ROM and then send unlock key to enter F3 T> to fix the possible firmware corruption.
There were something special with this data recovery cases. After Dolphin engineers backup the rom, unlocked the HDD and backup the important SYS files and found the NG-list had some entries and only small part of the data area can be accessed.
Tried to check plist, it is good without none-SF defects, tried to clear glist and regenerated translator, the partial sector issue remains the same.
Next the engineer tried to clear the NG list by COM port and it’s easily done but after translator regeneration(m063), the NGlist entries come back and the partial issue was still not fixed.
For above failure symptoms, with DFL Seagate firmware repair tool, DFL users have two options to fix the damaged HDD. One option is to use the auto repair for partial sector access issue but this may take some time to complete the auto repair. The other option users can try are some simple steps and users can find these simple steps in the Dolphin user-only forum for this case or similar case.
After the partial sector access issue was fixed, the engineer went to DFL-DDP data recovery program and all data area was accessible and all lost data were back.
